I wanted to create background illustrations for CIV that would have an antiquated feel, but not necessarily look as ancient as real paintings from that time. I started by pulling pallettes from 19th century paintings of roman ruins, drew and painted the image from either a screen capture from the game, or a preview render in MAX, and ended with a distressed overlay texture. The border was built in 3DS Max. |
